MEET THE ARTIST/ACTOR ANTHONY BEAN

This performance/workshop consist of a 45-55 minute presentation and is geared
for individual classrooms or groups of no more than 150 students.
INTRODUCTION *
Actor Anthony Bean introduces himself He will present a one (1) 25-minute "scene" and
then follow with a workshop session on "Emotions" and "Self-Esteem".
ABOUT THE ARTIST
This native New Orleanian got his first exposure to the theater at the ripe
young age of 16 when he wrote his first play. Success came early, and quickly
the theater
became an integral part of his life. Anthony Bean co-founded the Ethiopian
Theater in New Orleans, won the Atlanta's "Bronze Jubilee Award" and recipient
of the "Gold Halo Award," Southern California Motion Picture Council's
highest honor.
WHEN THE TRUMPET SOUNDS
This approximately 25-minute dramatic presentation by Anthony Bean drives
home the message of responsibility and family strengths. Through the eyes
of a little
boy at Christmas time, we are led through a wide range of emotional material
beautifully portrayed by Mr. Bean.
WORKSHOP SESSION
Mr. Bean will elicit class discussion and participation based on the following:
1. How many different kinds of feelings did the little boy portray? Objective:
To elicit emotion words based on characterization presented.
2. That did the characters) do that made you know they felt a certain way?
Objective: To develop observation skills of physical, vocal, and emotional
control based
on characterization.
(Mr. Bean will repeat short segments, if appropriate, to motivate discussion).
3. What do you do when you feel different emotions? Discuss specific emotions
as anger and love to motivate discussion. Objective: To probe individual
student feelings as a source for characterization.

Class is divided into groups of four. Each group will quickly develop the
emotional
characteristics of a "character." The group selects a single player.
The player is out of
audience's view. They can only hear his knock. Player is to know who he is,
where he is,
time, weather, etc. He is then to knock in a way that will communicate as much
of this
information to the audience as possible. ___

POINT OF CONCENTRATION: [on knocking, to show who, where and what, through
knocking]
EXAMPLE: Different kinds of knocks might *be: policeman at night, telegram,
rejected sweetheart, messenger from the king, gangster entering a hideaway,
spy, frightened neighbor, very young child, old man.
