“When the Trumpet Sounds” is an inspirational tale of a man who overcomes poverty, and a troubled youth to become an esteemed college professor. The man, Richard, tells his story through a series of flashback scenes, and includes vignettes that let Bean play a rambunctious boy, a confused youth, a wannabe dude, a broken alcoholic and an old man named Charlie. Bean Captures the joy’s, pains, and awkwardness of childhood and adolescence, transcending the limitation of age, and even racial barriers, by enacting rituals attended with different ages of a male in a household where the Father is Supposedly absent. “When The Trumpet Sounds” is a very warm, touching play that is both entertaining and educational, and provides a very unique opportunity – a rare experience in the theater – that pays tribute to the art of the one-man show
